Lee Surrenders

Today is the anniversary of Robert E Lee surrendering the army of northern Virginia to Ulysses S Grant at the Appomattox Court House.

The scourge of slavery should never have been allowed on these shores. The subsequent increase of federal power is a calamity under which we still labor. Amending the Constitution to give congress the power to levy taxes on personal income placed us all at the mercy of the state. There is a sense in which we are all slaves and we all work for the state. The money we earn is subject to their discretion as to how much we get to keep. They have strengthened their grip through payroll deductions so that we don't even lay hands on the money. All of this for the purpose of instituting legalized plunder. With power centralized in Washington, we the people, have less influence than ever.

Just my opinion, my FullyPersuaded opinion.
