People turn to entertainment for something to do but as I stated in my post it is fraught with danger. Our entertainment choices often desensitize us to evil thus our choices of entertainment gradually become more graphic both violently and sensually. I am convinced this is the very reason that many believers can sit and watch things without so much as a shudder. They have gradually gotten use to the dark. It is just a bit worse than what they watched last year. But add ten years together and you end up with things that are much worse than where we started. Turn it into 60 years and my post shows the trend.

I take from what you have written that you are a wife. I assume that based upon the fact that you seem to have limited control over what is brought into the home and also, unfortunately I have observed that the women folk usually tend to be more conservative in this area. Unfortunate that is, for the men folk who should be leading their families in righteousness. So I will answer the question from the standpoint of your being a wife.

When your husband is not home strictly control what the kids watch without discrediting your husband in the minds of your children. When he makes choices that you disagree with concerning entertainment again you can try to interest the children in something else. I know this can be hard, especially depending on their ages. Play a game with them or something. Last, but not least, choose a good time to respectuflly and honestly express your concerns to your husband. Do not attack him for doing so would probably be counter-productive. Express your concern about the influence it will have on the children. Tell him you are not asking for an answer right now but that you would like for him to think and pray about it and that maybe you could talk about it again in a week or so. Also, and it is not to be underestimated, you should be commiting the whole issue to the Lord to help your husband lead your family not the way you think he should but the way God would want him to and that God would give you the grace to be a supportive and loving help meet.

As for not being judgmental that does not mean that you cannot express you concerns in a way that is in keeping with your role in the home. You can and even have a responsibility to do so. I know that the Lord has used my wife on numeous ocassions to correct me and open my eyes to failures and shortcomings. The manner of approach is critical.

Do not be distraught. Being distraught is the result of unbelief and looking to the flesh for deliverance. As the verse in my previous post said, he will not fail thee. When we allow ourselves to become distraught then we tend to err in judgment.

I hope some of this has helped.

We will be reflecting on some principles of modesty in a few weeks.

Thanks for reading. I am humbled when I think that anyone would take the time to read what I have written. I can only hope that God will be glorified through it all!James McEntirehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18076786630641849452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25640206.post-11821541938155372422007-09-05T08:24:00.000-05:002007-09-05T08:24:00.000-05:00I am in total agreement with your comments, and we...I am in total agreement with your comments, and we had removed TV from our home for 18 years, BUT movies have been gradually creeping back in. What does a strong, committed Christian do when one's spouse has gone back to old habits? The subject matter, innuendos, etc. are defiling. The children's innocence is violated. BUT some would suggest that the "love of Christ" would come alongside and not be judgmental. I am distraught...

The same is true with the clothing issue - I am waiting for your series on dress.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
